As a child of the 1960s and '70s, I'm drawn to vibrant colors and retro designs. Peace, love, harmony, and happiness are the qualities I try to convey through my pieces. I create a lot of flowers, trees, and animals because they bring universal serenity and happiness. I work mainly using acrylics, watercolors, and ink, and I'm always striving to refine my techniques. "White space," for me, is hard...my pieces are generally the antithesis of "minimalist."
After 27 years teaching Art and English in an alternative high school setting, I HAVE RETIRED, effective August 2020! I miss the kids, but would rather pursue the next adventure in my journey.
I've been professionally selling my work since 2008, and my pieces reside in homes throughout North America, Canada, Europe, and Australia. I enjoy creating custom pieces, such as artwork for a nursery or kid's room, and I do a number of pet portraits as well. I also do in-home painting parties--they are great fun!
My art career started in 2007 when a friend wanted me to share her booth at a local arts fair. I decided to revive the Pet Rock from my childhood and sold over 300 rocks that day! Wow! (That's a lot of rocks!) People asked, "Do you have any larger works?" I didn't at the time, but quickly branched out, creating bigger pieces and developing a groovy style all my own. If it's bright and colorful, it makes me happy, and I hope it makes you happy, too!
I've recently married--well, almost four years ago--and he loves to accompany me when we hit the road in Houston and set up our booth. Once it's safe to be out and about post-pandemic, we plan to do more local and regional fairs and festivals. Look for us if you're in the Houston area, and follow me on Facebook to see the most recent pieces and announcements!
